Scenario 5 - Diplomacy, Deceit, Destruction

Those Compies at the start are a pain. Any suggestions?
That Priest near the Mongols gets killed by the lion before I can get him
The Mongols have asked for tribute and I have no Market
How can I get the two groups to meet up?
How can I get more gold?

Scenario 5 - Diplomacy, Deceit, Destruction

Get them out the way quickly - group the Cavalry and send them in on them one by one. Use the Minister (Amon Ra) to convert a few, or at least distract them while the Cavalry move in. When the Compies are all gone, pull back and heal. Keep all five Cavalry alive, restarting if you have to - they play a vital part later.

Then change your diplomacy to ally for everyone except the yellows. Attack the yellow Temple but do not destroy it.

 Why?

Scenario 5 - Diplomacy, Deceit, Destruction

Whichever way you go you will have to pass through enemy territory to find all your troops. You are no way ready for a fight, so ally with them until you are through their territory. Start with Perseus and Hersifon and take them up the map to the top to find the Mongols.

Attacking Fergana Valley's Temple makes the Mongols change to ally, allowing you to pass through. Use only one unit to attack it, as sometimes it takes a minute or two for them to switch alliance and you want the Temple intact.

OK, but why not destroy the Temple and the other buildings?

Scenario 5 - Diplomacy, Deceit, Destruction

Look around the forest by the Mongol base for a Gaia Temple, capture it and research Monotheism. Then use Amon Ra to convert the buildings instead. You don't get to build much, so grab it when you can, even the houses.

Scenario 5 - Diplomacy, Deceit, Destruction

Send in the Heavy Cavalry without Hero Perseus - it's his range that exposes the Priest and the lion before you can save him.

Why do the Cavalry disappear in the fog?

Scenario 5 - Diplomacy, Deceit, Destruction

They are actually one of the 'special units' from the game editor. Notice they are called Mercenary rather than Cavalry. Take Hersifon in behind them to draw out the lion and kill it, then grab the Priest.

Scenario 5 - Diplomacy, Deceit, Destruction

Go back to the Cavalry you used to kill the Compies with and take them northwest towards the middle of the map, to find a Market in an allied town. There's a Legion to pick up on the way but if you go too far west you will run into the Kangju so be careful. They change alliance constantly throughout the game so you cannot count on safe passage.

Once you have paid the tribute you are safe from the Mongols. Beyond them are the Anxi. Explore their area fully to find some troops and a Trade Boat. Convert Fergana Valley's Stable if you haven't already done so and upgrade to Heavy Cavalry.

Scenario 5 - Diplomacy, Deceit, Destruction

In the Tiaozhi town where your Market is you will also find a Heavy Catapult. Change diplomacy to neutral (not enemy!) and convert it with your Priest while you take out the soldiers with your Cavalry. Do not destroy any buildings, instead convert them all. To safely convert the Heavy Catapult, stand right next to it and it can't hit you.

Heavy Catapults can destroy trees so your groups can meet up. Try not to hit anyone else, you are still not ready to fight.

Scenario 5 - Diplomacy, Deceit, Destruction

Use the trade boat to explore the river and find the Dock, if you haven't already. Past the Dock in the corner is the Government Centre you have to bring the Heroes to. Get a couple of Fishing Boats out and trade food for gold with Anxi.

Make enough units to take out the Mongols, convert their Storage Pit and grab wood for Farms. Upgrade to Iron Shield while you're at it, achieving another VC.
