Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

It's a bug in the game, if you select either Hero Corlis or Hero Hersifon and click on a tree or some stone etc (or even too near a resource of any kind) they turn into a normal Villager. For this reason it's best to keep Hersifon back until you have cleared a path for him i.e. don't use him at all, then bring him in after you have cleared the area - he will be needed for some of the tasks ahead but there's no point risking him. Keep the artifact back for a while too, so other players don't 'acquire it' from you.

Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

Try and use Perseus to draw them out and then use your swordsmen to pile up on them one by one. It's tricky, and navigating through the trees doesn't help, but save often and you should get through with minimal damage to your troops.

Use the same tactic on the Chariots across the river.

Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

You can cross on the brown stones - as you normally can't cross on them I assume Rich did the 'walk on water' map trick here - neat, huh?

Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

Yes, if you fully explore the village you will find a Priest (and a Villager)

I see him but have to go through the battle to get to him.

Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

Remember that it's only the Bandits you have to kill here. The Yuezhi are your allies, so lead the Bandits to them and let them take the fight while you get healed. In the Yuetzi village are a couple more Swordsmen. When healed take out the Towers with Perseus while your Swordsmen and the Yuezhi kill the Axemen, then total the Barracks. Meanwhile the Villager you found should have mined enough stone for the Tower you need to build. Use Hersifon to build it.

 It's a Watch Tower - don't I need a Sentry Tower?

Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

Yes. Behind the Bandits' camp is a Granary. If the Villager you found has got the stone, get him hunting and shore fishing for the food you need to upgrade.

Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

As AoE does not allow creation of carrots or sugar lumps, you can't. You have to try and herd it in the right direction. Remember that you don't have to do it to win - originally you did but Rich changed it as it can be too much hassle.

Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

Yes, if you skirt around the camp and follow the river you will find a Priest. You will have to cut him loose from the forest, though, so bring Hersifon over.

How can I cut him loose without a Storage Pit?

Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

Get him to cut wood till his hands are full, then tell him to mine gold - he drops all the wood - tell him to get wood till his hands are full again - and so on, until you have freed the Priest.

Even after getting the Priest the Bandits are pretty tough - any more help?

Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

Cut a path southwards and let the Priest go through - you will find the palace you must bring the Artifact and Heroes to, and also some reinforcements. You should now have a substantial force for wiping out the Bandits.

Scenario 2 - Chang Ch'ien - China's Marco Polo

Always have it accompanied by a Priest or two. If that means bringing a couple of Priests back to Fergana Valley, so be it. You need to make the exchange and bring the one at the Shendu base to the palace, and your other units cannot protect them as well as a Priest can, plus Priests move at more or less the same speed.
