The Fortress

By Kyle Leach

Everywhere I go I get attacked.
I tried using the raft and it gets shot to bits by those Compies and that Tower.
 Is there any gold anywhere?
It's tricky trying to grab Gaia Villies, or convert enemy Villies, when I'm fighting enemies, even when I set diplomacy to neutral.
Any hints for taking out the fortress?

The Fortress

The first thing to do is clear the area of the Shock Troops (Brown). Get all your archers behind the Cavalry and Centurions, then use Hero Alexander or the HHA to lure the soldiers into your arrows. Keep all of your troops alive.

Should I do the same thing with those orange Cataphracts?
What about the troops I can see across the river?

The Fortress

If you like; or, having found where they are, you could skirt round them and find the Villies at the bottom left corner of the map, use them to mine stone, wall in or Tower up, then lure them. You have the best possible civ for Towers.

Hit as many as you can with your archers. Look for units that cannot move, or are blocked in by other units, and take them out first. It makes less work for later.

Three yellow Compies and the Tower are the obstacles for now. Use the HHA or build a Tower to take care of the first Compie, who is just across the river from where you find the two rafts - if you have not killed the orange Cavalry yet they may rush you at this point, so wall in and get your archers behind the wall before building the Tower. Then put Alexander in a raft, drop him off on the land to the left and let him run down the second Compie. Put him back in the raft and drop him over on the opposite bank - the third Compie will start firing at him, so get him to attack - he will run all the way along the bank, past the Tower and find some units on the way.

Take out that Tower by building your own.

The Fortress

In the top right hand corner after taking out a few yellow Compies you will find some Villies, gold and a Priest.

 What Priest?

The one in the corner past the gold. You will need to cut through the trees to reach him.

The impression given by the in-game hints is that you need lots of Villies - you don't. Once you have mined all the gold and got enough wood you can blow everything away with Helos, and in fact can even delete most of your Villies to make room for a bigger army, keeping a couple for building. You need ten conversions as a VC but conversions can be anything, even buildings, so kill two birds with one stone - convert some and make use of them.

The Fortress

There are many ways to take the fortress. There are three entrances; the main entrance near your starting point and the other two at the top and right hand sides. The main path into the fortress winds about, and this can be used to your advantage. Lure troops into the entrance and take them out with Centy's, Helos and Cavalry. The other two entrances have less Towers.

Converting outlying Villies and buildings is a good way to lure out troops.

An amusing tactic is to find the Dock and convert it, then have Triremes bombing the top entrance to the fortress.
